1939 Austin 8 Tourer

This was the first year for the Austin 8, replacing the hugely successful but antiquated A7. When England entered WW2 in 1939, civilian production ceased with A8's manufactured for military use only (see cartoon). These cars had extremely hard use and very few survived. When civilian production of the A8 resumed after the war, only closed sedans were offered, making the open tourer an extremely rare automobile. It is estimated that only approximately 12 exist.

-----My example was believed to have been brought back to the USA by a returning soldier, converted to left hand drive (Austin offered a conversion kit), and saw many years as a vacation home vehicle on Long Island NY.
-----
-----The photo is not of my car, but of an identical car in Australia (sans the steering conversion). The wonderful cartoon was drawn by the owner's mother of her A8 that she drove during WW2. I will have pics of my car soon.
